You don't need special glasses to see the newest bot......in 3D!!!!

This is the newest version of Huey in 3D CAD. It rocks, despite the time dedication and sleep depravation, but this is it. This is what it will look like, except maybe the colors. Like the previous one, it is open for change, but not for a while. Sweet Dogg...

I would like to congradulate everyone on the outsdanding job that they did at the AE open house. Everything went well. On a lesser note I would also like to thank eveyone who has posted.

Keep up the good work!

Power/Control Update

For Power/Control, we have come a long way since August. We were faced with the system requirements of creating and programming a electrical system that would safely operate our drive and weapon systems. The components in our system include:
24V Victor 883 speed controllers
24V Custom Brick battery from Robot Marketplace
12V Custom Brick battery from Robot Marketplace
PWM wiring and Dean's Wet Noodle 12-gauge wiring
Isaac Control System
connectors
joysticks

We will have 4 Victor 883's, 1 24V Battery, 2 12V Batteries, several feet of wiring, multiple connectors, 2 joysticks, and our 3 Isaac components laid out in our Battlebot. We will be integrating our 24V Battery and 2 speed controllers with our drive system. With our weapon system, we will integrate 2 12V Batteries and 2 speed controllers.

After presenting our PDR at Honeywell, we made a few minor changes. These included calculating the current of our system in order to ensure the parts we had ordered would be sufficient. Our next step was to hook up all of our components and to program our drive and weapon systems. Our primary focus is to create precise control over our drive movements and our activation of our blade. We are useing PBASIC to program these systems. Ryan Metcalf has led the charge in these fields. Also, Jason Reynolds has adopted the task of 3-D CADing. His drawings are marvellous. For the final bot, we should be able to directly implement our system from the prototype. Team Huey is taking off!

Frame: RevAMPed

Tonight, we re-did the frame, expanding it to correctly fit the componenets. Previously the bot had been slightly too small to fit both weapon motors, so it had to be expanded.

Drive System

Drive system consists of two NPC Thingap TG3242HT motors, Two castors, and two W238-150-44H Wheels. The motors have a 26:1 gear ratio, And are only 1.5" tall. The castors are rated at 90lbs each, which with the 120lbs of the bot divided 4 ways between the wheels and the castors will be more than suffcient to handle any load the bot will take. The castors will be placed in the back corners of the bot, and the motors and wheels will be placed near the center of the bot along the sides. The wheels will be internal, so they won't be at risk for a hit. The only intergration that we will have with other systems is placement of the actual parts, and wiring up the motors. The next steps for our system is to get all the parts in from the vendors, and to place them into the bot. The software we needed for our system would be CAD and MS Excel. For the final bot, we'll need tools to get the system into the bot; things like dremel saws, screwdrivers, etc.

Frame and Armor

Today in Battlebots, I started this blog. Since our prototype was completed Ed, Scott, and Dakota worked on the base plate for the bot. Since someone glued some scrap of wood to the front of the bot we had to take it off.

That was our day, and Mrs. Metcalf got AV equipment
Peace out.

Batteries are gettin' done. Power/Control are finishing with programming the weapon system. Go team!

Completed Prototype

The completed frame of the prototype means that we are now ready to install all mechanicals and without any signifigant delays we will be able to have the bot ready to go for the A/E open house night.
