Currently I am working witht the permitting, and engineering department on various tasks. I am still doing light tabling and residential plan review, but have branched out and am learning about the commercial review side. I am also helping the permitting department with some databasing and other tasks. I have been busy here at JCW and am still enjoying the work I do.

Field Work

This past week I spent the days going out into the field with all of the inspectors and observing inspections around the county. I learned what different inspections required, and how different areas of the county see different types of inspections because of the growth in different areas. I learned a lot about the different companies that are in the area, and how some are easier to work with than others. Overall it was a great learning experience and I hope to get out more often. This Thursday will officially begin my internship during the school year. I will keep up to date as I begin new projects, learn new information, or just something exiting comes up. Keep Posted !

Update

I am still working with all of the new and re-submittal for residential sewer lines. I have continued to learn new information about the plans, and am becoming familiar with the tendencies of individual engineering firms. I was surprised how often the same people make the same mistakes over and over again.

New Project: Peak Flow Corrections

I have started a new project for Matt Bond that basically involves me going through a ton of sheets that were created after recording the flow of holding tanks within the JCW district and changing the gallons per tested time into gallons per day. This was done incorrectly previously, so I now have to go back and re-do all of the calculations. I made an excel program to make this process a lot faster. Here's a picture:

I should finish this project by the end of the day if all goes well and I don't get any weird sheets that require a lot more work I have not updated recently, so here's a re-cap of what I've been doing:

New Submittal, Residential Sewer Line Reviews

Residential Sewer Light Tabling

GPS Locating

Misc. Projects (Peak Flow Calc., Filing, Number Checks, Quick LT, etc...)

I am enjoying the work I'm doing here at JCW, and as school is right around the corner I look forward to a great school year working during my 5th and 6th hour for work release. From now on I will update either when I get a new project, a special event happens, or I just haven't updated in awhile. So keep posted for new information !

Day 23: Light Table and # Check

Today I finished all of my light tabling, # checking and any other assorted tasks I had been given for the week. What I had to do was take as-built sheets and highlight the approved building, sewer main (relating to the building), the stub, and service line, doing one asbuilt for each of the 14 approved buildings. I then made copies of the full size plan on the plan copier, and made plan sheets for each of the buildings highlighting the same information as the as-builts. After doing all the highlighting I put together a packet containing permit sheets, and specs for the plumber along with the as-built and plans.

Day 18: KDHE Sheets & Plan Review

Today I started off entering information from KDHE approval sheets into the database to update the project information. We were expecting to make this presentation July 25th/26th, and were caught of guard when we found out we were doing it today, however we were completely prepared and made a great presentation. After the presentation I finished up a few # check on a set of plans and finished off the day filing a TON of papers.

Day 10: Field Work Introduction

Today I went out with one of the Field Inspectors Lonnie Ponder. We went first to check out a problem with a manhole and service line in a new development. After figuring out a solution to the problem we headed toward another new development area to witness a plug removal. It was a very quick and easy process, but an inspector has to be on sight to make sure its done right. After the plug removal we went to see what a main line project looks like. It was very interesting to see how the large lines and manholes come together. Overall it was a very educational day.

Day 11: MARC Blog conference

Today I attended a MARC conference on blogging.
