The Aerospace Engineering Program at Olathe Northwest High School

A/E has exceeded its expectations and the amount of students enrolled is continually growing. During their sophomore year, A/E students take Material Science, Intro to Tech and A/E CAD I. During their junior year they are enrolled in A/E CAD II, III, A/E Physics, and A/E Mathematics. Their senior year, students in the program can choose among a variety of Senior Projects, Internships, or can be on a Battlebot Team. Some students with enough elective credits are capable of participating in multiple Senior Projects. While it is difficult to participate in both an internship and a sport at Olathe Northwest, some Seniors find a way to manage their time and make it work.

A/E Senior Project: Battlebots

Battlebots utilizes each of these courses as students design, refine, prototype, and fabricate their combat robot for the Battlebots national robotics competition.

The Battlebot competition provides students with performance feedback which is an important part of refining an engineered product. Battlebots allows students to experience all aspects of the engineering process.
